Tuesday Night Set Dancing
Irish dance teacher Rita O’Shea runs a class on Tuesday nights for adults at Harrington’s upstairs in the function room. The class runs from 7 to 9 and tonight a group of 13 or so dancers gathered for a fun social evening of dancing some of the old sets and Ceili dances, like the Siege of Ennis (YouTube).
“No, no, no,” Rita says, after the first dance finished to a lively Irish reel. “Line up!” That’s when I snapped the picture. They were in for a few reminders about the finer points of the dance. But it’s all fun, even more so when it is executed smoothly in time to the music.
The dance class is a weekly event on Tuesday nights from September to May. Classes are open to the public. There is a small fee collected at each class.
Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 there is set dancing with a minimal amount of teaching held upstairs and led by Frank Keane. It’s more fast pace and it draws a regular croud of dancers as well.
We are happy to host these Irish cultural events for the community.
